RUMOURS: A TRIBUTE TO FLEETWOOD MAC

Comprised of 6 veterans of the Atlanta music scene, Rumours convened in the summer of 2014 to engage in what would become a red wine fueled, Wednesday evening cookout/rehearsal flavored rendition of one of the greatest pop bands in history.

Rumours, Fleetwood Mac Tribute delight the audience with three blockbuster sets packed with spot on, fresh and inspired renditions of Fleetwood Mac’s greatest hits. Each member brings musical mastery and fanciful costume while honoring their original counterparts in their roles as Kenzie Nicks, Doug Buckingham, Adrienne McVie, Alex Thrift Buckingham , Jerry McVie, Meanface Bear Lightnin' Fleetwood.
But it is not about the look Rumours brings to the stage, but the music that deserves the highest praise and critical acclaim. I’ve seen both Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks perform live in years gone by, and they delivered the goods. However, their arena-scale road shows never matched the passionate exuberance this tribute act brought to each and every song. Rumours’ artists share their intimate love for the Fleetwood Mac song book, and when you witness their performance, you can’t help going head over heels right along with them.
Rumours demonstrates how epic vocal performances are Fleetwood Mac’s hallmark, and Mekenzie Jackson, Adrienne Cottrell and Doug Easterly each beguile as solo, lead and harmony.
Jackson channels the renowned Ms. Nicks vocals expertly from the sweet highs to the gravely lows. Kenzie also offers acoustic guitar and clavinet keys, but the way she moves the tambourine and maraca is simply remarkable – if FM featured it on a studio album, Kenzie layered it live. Shake it, baby.
Adrienne Cottrell’s Christine McVie vocal rendition is terrific, however, she amazes by delivering her solo, lead and harmony vocals simultaneously with flawless McVie keyboard virtuosity that she demonstrated through all three sets. What’s more, Adrienne also plays a mean acoustic guitar, showcasing her well-rounded musical chops.
Doug Easterly come Lindsey Buckingham brought a tour de force performance at solo, lead and harmony vocals and acoustic guitar while also helping flesh out the rich and tight percussion performance on the congas.
Alongside their vocal prowess, Rumours’ lead guitarist Alex Thrift. Jerry Tew on Bass and Drummer Meanface Bear Lightnin’ create the highly articulate soundscape demanded by Fleetwood Mac’s legendary musical stylings. Combining complex rhythms, non-standard timings and highly original melodies, punctuated by soaring leads and thundering baselines, Thrift, Tew and Lightnin’ coalesce in bringing FM’s gigantic sound to the live stage.
The intimate venue and yeoman’s work on the boards highlighted the driving, brilliant and nuanced performances on guitars and drums that is typically only captured in a studio setting.
"I deem Rumours’ performance artistry as a unique and wonderful experience that rekindles Fleetwood Mac’s youthful magic from the ‘70s and ‘80s, showcasing their musical talents while remaining faithful to the beloved FM catalog, delivering today at a level beyond the capabilities of even Nicks and the original members .
I urge music lovers to checkout Rumours and support their ascendance while tracking the careers of these remarkable musicians." - Tad Bixby
